Sea Urchin Project
Our classroom is lucky to have sea urchins in our salt water aquarium. One of the main problem in our ocean today is the disappearance/destruction of coral reefs. Coral reefs are very important to the many wild life that live in the ocean and without the coral reef, many of these animals will not survive. On Oahu, an invasive algae has taken over Kaneohe bay. Alongside Dr. Rick Jones of UH-West Oahu, we are raising sea urchins in our classroom that will be released into Kaneohe Bay to eat the invasive algae. When enough sea urchins are released into the bay, it is our hope that these sea urchins will reduce or take out the invasive algae that is destroying the coral reef.
Beautiful Kaneohe Bay, we will be releasing our sea urchins into the bay to eat the invasive algae that populate the coral reefs.
